What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results for targeted keywords.

The ultimate goal of SEO efforts is to increase the volume of FREE traffic.

Organic SEO

“Organic SEO” refers to the type of optimization that can be implemented on your website by your web programmer.

Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the use of search engine optimization techniques to attain higher search engine rankings for target keyword phrases and draw “FREE” traffic from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. Organic search engine rankings are those that are displayed “naturally” along the left side of search result pages.

Organic optimizing is done by making changes to a site to make it more search engine friendly - as well as optimizing off-page factors that influence ranking such as quality and relevance of incoming links.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

Often Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is referred to the paid internet marketing like paid placement and paid inclusions. However it is a broader term which includes organic SEO also.  There has been tremendous grouth in SEM over the recent years.  Now SEM is growing much faster than advertising on TV and Newspaper. The worlds largest SEM providers are:Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter.
