10 SEO optimization tips for dynamic websites

Today lets look in to some of the ways you can optimize a dynamic website. Here they are:

  1. Study large websites in your industry and get tips from them. For eg: if  you’re developing a e-commerce store, it is good to analyze websites like amazon.com and ebay.com.
  2. Create search engine friendly URLs with the help of URL re-writing techniques. You can also use some plug-in applications that will change your existing dynamic URLs into static ones.
  3. If your site is large, implement a caching mechanism to improve performance. Fast-loading websites help visitors stay longer and are easy for search engines to crawl.
  4. Dynamically create a google sitemap and update it. Submit your sitemap feeds to google, yahoo and msn.
  5. Avoid using session IDs in the URL, especially when user has not logged in.
  6. If you do need to include parameters in URLs, limit them to two or three and limit the number of characters per parameter to about ten or fewer.
  7. If you sell products, considering submitting your feeds to Google Base and automate the submission process.
  8. Use social media optimzation (SMO) techniques like RSS feeds and third party tools like sharethis or addthis where necessary. This will help your site visitors to share your site information with their friends easily.
  9. Add a blog to your website, and highlight important aspects of your website. Show case new features, new items or specials in your posts. Leave room for each post to breath by posting only 2 or 3 posts per week.
  10. Create communities around your website in various social networking platforms like facebook, myspace, etc.
